Our Story
A Peek at the Past
Hi there & welcome to our farm! The farm has been in our family for three generations (so far), since 1942. Prior to this, the Osgood family owned the farm for five generations. They raised "lots" of potatoes here & in fact were known as the Potato Kings of Vermont! They also were one of the largest maple producers in Vermont. Our family built & ran a dairy farm here until 1986. Since then, we have raised beef cows & have continued to produce maple syrup here since first buying the farm. Both the barn & farmhouse are on the National Historic Registry. Come see for yourself remnants of its old potato days where the scales were set up & there is handwriting on the walls!
Our Story
Well, the newest member of our family, Jack the Cattle Dog, is FANTASTIC! He just turned one year old on June 20th & he is the best dog. He goes EVERYWHERE with me, really! He has attended classes at UVM with me just down the hall from the President’s office, he made friends with EVERYONE in the Harris-Millis dorm last year visiting Sawyer there at UVM on a pretty regular basis, he’s gone to meetings with me including in the Police Station conference room in Rutland (no, we weren’t being arrested!), he’s travelled to Minnesota, & many, many, MANY other places! Partly because of this & partly because he is just a great dog, he LOVES people. When you visit the Farm, you will DEFINITELY meet him because he is always with me & I never get a day off! He will more than likely be carrying around one of his favorite soccer balls & I’m sure he will be very happy to meet you!
Chloe is our older dog. She is headed toward being 14 years old. She is completely deaf, although we joke that she never really listened to us anyway, but it doesn’t seem to bother her much. We are just really careful of her near the road & other dangers. You prob’ly won’t see her when you visit because she’s comfy indoors on her bed & the recliner most of the time, but she is really doing well for her age & is very comfortable living with Jack. He is SO respectful of her!
The rest of us will all be here, on weekends anyway, along with our other terrific “Maze Helpers” Clare, Carol & Leanne. Sawyer is headed back to UVM this fall as a sophomore, but has promised to come back on weekends to help people through the maze. Prob’ly figures some will still be in there at Christmas if he doesn’t! BJ & I (& Jack) will be busy getting people lost during the week. Byron will be on hand when he can to keep everything running smoothly. We all look forward to seeing our friends that visit every year &, of course, to meeting new ones so come on up & we’ll have ya “Lost… Laughin’…& Lovin’ It”!
